Wow, the last day of November is here!  Where does the time go!  Only 3 weeks until Christmas break!

ELA HOMEWORK:
Family Heritage Inteviews are due on Monday, December 3!


MATH HOMEWORK:
Input/Output Machine Posters are due Monday!


SOCIAL HOMWORK
From Sea to Shining Sea- 6B is due is December 10
From Sea to Shining Sea - 6A is due on December 7

FRENCH HOMEWORK:
Les Jours booklet - the second page of the booklet is homework. It is due December 3

ELA 6B
Our new read aloud, BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA, was introduced today. 
Several before reading activities were completed.
1.  Students created a "Title Page" with the book title and author.  This page will be a "doodle" page for during reading activities.
2.  Student created a Top 10 list - Traits of a Good Friend. These were shared as a class.
3.  Students completed an anticipation guide which had them evaluate their attitudes about certain issues.  We will revisit this guide at the end of the story.
4.  A vocabulary exercise was introduced to students.  They wrote down 9 vocabulary words.  Their task is to be aware of the words and be the first to IDENTIFY the word when it is read.
5.  Finally, students listened to Chapter 1 of the novel.

MATH 6B
Our new unit, "Patterns and Equations" was continued today. We reviewed the concept of input rule, output rule and pattern rule.  Students had 10 minutes to complete their "Patterns from Tables" poster that is due on Monday.  Students were then introduced to the new topic, "Patterns from Tables."  The explored various ways of figuring out the pattern rule when a table of values is provided.  They discovered a "trick" for determining the pattern rule:

If the input numbers are CONSECUTIVE, and the output numbers increase by 4 each time, the first operation and number in the machine will be x4.  If the input numbers are CONSECUTIVE, and the output numbers increase by 7 each time, the first operation and number in the machine will be x7.  As a class, we worked through questions 1,2, and 4 from the textbook.  Students completed the work on their whiteboards.

November Current Events packages were due today.
Island Paradise was also due. Students were assigned a new map skills, "From Sea to Shining Sea". Students had 20 minutes to work on these. The are due on December 10.
We began our study of longitude by watching a video and filling in a cloze notes page.  An answer key for the cloze notes is attached to your homework package if you were absent.

ELA 6B
Students were introduced to their family heritage assignment today.  The project is to interview a grandparent or second generation family member to learn about their family heritage.  They will create a Powerpoint presentation of the questions and answers along with pictures to present to the rest of the class.  Interviews MUST be completed by Monday, December 3.  Students will begin working on the Powerpoint on Monday.
 


HEALTH 6B
The decision making steps were discussed.  We worked through a case study together as a class working through the steps of the decision making process.  NO HOMEWORK


SOCIAL 6A
November Current Events packages were due today.
Island Paradise was also due.  Students were assigned a new map skills, "From Sea to Shining Sea".  Students had 20 minutes to work on these.  The are due on December 7.
We began our study of longitude by watching a video and filling in a cloze notes page. 


MATH 6B
A mad minute started the class. Question 4 and 6 from the textbook were assigned. Students handed in Step by Step 1 and Hand In 1 which were due today. The rest of the class was spent making a representation of our new concept. Students were given a "Pattern Rule" They were required to make a poster representing the rule and then had to write out the input rule, output rule and pattern rule. Below is a sample of what this might look like!


WRITING 6B
Students had time to choose and compose questions for their Family Heritage project.  INTERVIEWS MUST BE COMPLETED BY MONDAY, DECEMBER 3.  The rest of the class time was devoted to finishing our read aloud.

We continued our new unit on Patterns and Equations today. Students are to be done questions 4, 6, 7 from page 8 of the textbook AND the Hand In assignment.

Students handed in their centres today and finished sharing their personal narratives.
 
MATH 6B
Our new unit, "Patterns and Equations" was continued today  We reviewed the concept of input rule, output rule and pattern rule.  We corrected question 1 and 2 from the textbook which was due today.  There were 8 students that were not done, so it made the new work difficult.  Today's assignement was to complete questions 4,6,7 (use step by step for question 7) and finish the hand in.  These are both due tomorrow!

We then wrapped up our study of latitude by writing a quiz and correcting the last two pages of our latitude booklet. Longitude was briefly introduced before class ended. This will continue next day.

Our new unit, "Patterns and Equations" was introduced to students.  The first lesson was on Input/Output machines.  Students filled in tables of values and practised communicating the input rule, output rule and pattern rule.  The following is a sample of what this looks like:

Latitude - we finished our study of latitude today.  Completed pages were corrected and the last 2 pages of the booklet were assigned for homework.
THERE WILL BE A LATITUDE QUIZ ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28.  You will be required to label ALL of the important lines of latitude on a globe and know the terminology associated with latitude.

1.  Multiplication conditioning kicked off the class
2.  The first 5 pages of the math operations booklets were corrected together.  Students were assigned pages 18 and 19.  These are homework for Monday.

Students listened to the read aloud for the first 15 minutes.  During this time, assignments were returned and filed in student binders.   
The rest of the class was left to work on the personal narratives.  We discussed the importance of editing and revising.  This assignment is due on November 27.

MATH TEST TOMORROW! (Multiples, Factors, Divisibility Rules, Prime and Composite Numbers, Order of Operations, Integers).  Students were to complete the review today.

1. Students had 20 minutes to work on their current events package.
2. The next question for discussion was introduced, "What Strategies to Geographers use to Describe Place." . Students began their study of "LATITUDE" We watched a short video clip and then filled in the cloze notes in the latitude booklet.  There is no homework from this.

Don't forget that current events are due on Nov. 29 and Map skills (All Wet) is due on Nov. 21.

READING BUDDIES
Students read to their PPEP buddies for half the class.  Students then filled in a page that they will share with parents during parent teacher interviews.  They reflected on their strengths and their goals for improvements.
