Monday, March 5 - Day 1

Tomorrow is activity day! If you are going to Asessippi, please remember to pack a lunch or bring money to purchase lunch.  Skiing and snowboarding buses leave the school at 8:00 sharp


9:00 - 10:30 - Centres
We started our next round of centres today. Today was "Day 1" of Cycle 15 centres. All Centre Activities will be due on Monday, March 12.  A summary of this week's centres is posted above.  We started our Mission Space Book Club in guided reading.  Students are reading an info fiction graphic novel.  We will be focusing on various before, during and after reading strategies.

10:35 - 11:10 - Career Work Experience
Infectious disease brochures were given back to students.  Students that have not completed this assignment need to have it handed in before the end of the day.  We continued our study of decision making today, looking at logical thinkers and those who use intuition to make decisions. We discussed the answers to "Catherine's Story" and started looking at "Here and Now Decisions" vs. "Decisions that Affect our Futures"
11:15 - 12:15 - Writing 6B
The first part of class was devoted to handing back marked assignments.  Several assignments were returned to students and they were filed into the proper section of their ELA binders.  We continued with our read aloud, "The Amazing International Space Station"  Students wrote a before reading entry into their response journals.  "What do I know about this text?"  We shared responses and discussed the characteristics of a thoughtful response.

1:20 - 2:20 - Math 6B
We continued our study of place value of decimals.  We went over the hand-in that was completed last class and worked through a handout on hundredths and thousandths together.  We reviewed place value of decimals, expanded form, standard form and did some work on comparing decimals.  Students were given the following assignment from the textbook.  Page 90-91 #1-6 and 8-10.  Questions 1 and 2 are due for Wednesday!
2:24 - 3:25 - Social 6A (6B had science - check Ms. Smart's blog for details)
Several assignments were handed back to students (map skills, treaty map of Saskatchewan).  There are a couple of students that need to get their Feb. Current Events package handed in!
Map skills, "A Closer Look at South America" was assigned today.  It is due on Tuesday, March 13. 
We discussed benefits of treaties for the First Nations and the Newcomers.  Students worked through a Smart Notebook
Activity and recorded their answers.  This is an extension of the activity they are working on during centre time.
