Notes/Reminders for Today
  • Grade 6 students will be helping with town clean up on Monday May 14.  Remember to come dressed appropriately.  Bring a water bottle, work gloves, bug spray and sun screen.  It looks like we will have a beautiful day!
  • Please bring $5.00 to cover the cost of the tri-fold board that will be used in our social Cultural Fair
9:00 - 10:00 - ELA
Students typed their acrostic poems which were written in centres last cycle.  When they were done they worked on "All the Right Type" or played math games.  If you were absent, please type out your acrostic.

 
Period Two - CWE
We continued our career discussion looking at taking things "One Step at a Time"  Students read pages 17- 19 together as a class, discussing the importance of recognizing our skills, talents and interests in choosing our career path.  Assignment:  Do the "Know Yourself" chart on page 17 and complete the following journal entry:
     What is the most significant change that’s happened to you in your life so far? Explain how this change affected you at the time and how it has also affected your future.

This is homework if you did not get it done in class.

Period Three -Writing

Students listened to Mrs. Farmer read Chapter 8 of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.  Chapter 7 and 8 questions were assigned for homework.  Students were also given a visualizaion assignment, requiring them to represent the meaning of a simile.  This was not assigned as homework.


Period Three -Writing

 We continued our study of comparing mixed numbers and improper fractions.  The strategies of using number line benchmarks, using paper strips and using equivalent fractions were reviewed.  Students began working on the textbook assignment which is in a handout package. Most students got to question 3.   Nothing was assigned for homework.

Period Five - Social 6A (6B had science with Ms. Smart - check her blog for details)

Students worked on completing their research on children and began their research on culture. Research on childrenis due for next class (Tuesday). Thanks to the students that have brought $5 for the tri-fold board. Please get this in as soon as possible. As we complete our research, students will begin creating their presentation!  We only have 1 or 2 more research classes.
